Technology

Order and fulfillment data connected to the systems customers already use.

Shopify, ShipStation, custom APIs, and structured order files can reduce manual entry and connect ecommerce orders, status, shipping, tracking, and reporting.

Overview

Technology should serve the operating workflow.

Customers can connect Shopify and other stores to fulfillment through ShipStation's existing APIs, or work with Impress Designs on a custom API or standardized automated-order format.

Where the connection supports it, order status and tracking are returned to the customer's store or system through ShipStation or a custom API. Integration work is scoped jointly with the customer's technical and operations teams.

Capabilities & scope

Integration paths.

01

Custom APIs

Purpose-built connections can exchange approved orders, status, shipment, tracking, and other program data.

02

Shopify and other stores

Existing ecommerce stores can remain customer-facing while approved order data moves into the production and fulfillment workflow.

03

ShipStation

As a ShipStation 3PL partner, Impress Designs can use established ShipStation connections to receive orders and return shipment and tracking information.

04

Structured order files

Standardized ecommerce and automated-order files can support programs that do not require a custom API.

05

Separated customer systems

Customer-specific order, proof, invoice, and account functions remain separate from the public marketing site and are introduced only through approved, secure account workflows.

Operating model

Integration discovery.

  1. 01

Map systems of record, owners, users, order sources, status events, shipments, and reporting needs.

  2. 02

Define the minimum required data, identifiers, validation, security, and exception handling.

  3. 03

Select a ShipStation, custom API, ecommerce-platform, or structured-file integration.

  4. 04

Test end to end with business and technical owners before production launch.

Requirements & controls

Enterprise integration requirements

  • Customer technical participation is required.
  • Every program needs stable product, order, customer, and shipment identifiers.
  • Authentication, authorization, data minimization, and logging must be defined.
  • Retries, duplicates, cancellations, partials, and exceptions require explicit handling.
  • Inventory reporting is currently program-based rather than promised as live or real time.

Customer fit

A strong fit for

  • Customer-owned ecommerce platforms
  • Retail and EDI programs
  • High-volume recurring order flows
  • Organizations reducing manual order entry
  • Programs needing status and tracking feedback
